After spending one too many nights rocking her children back to sleep, Carol McGeady dreamed up CaribooŽ in the wee hours of the morning in 1986. She imagined a bassinet that could help infants sleep by being sensitive to their natural movements. From this inspiration, she created the Gentle Motions Bassinet.
At one point, Carol didn't think she would get to experience motherhood. Told she would never have children, she threw herself into running a small wool shop in New Zealand. After the joy of delivering Amanda and Brendon, she turned that early-morning idea into an extraordinary bassinet sought after by discerning parents. Once on the market, it quickly became the best-selling bassinet in her native New Zealand.
Cariboo baby furniture is known for its bassinets, although all products from this New Zealand brand are made from local and sustainable sources. This includes stained wood frames made from radiata pine and wool. Cariboo bassinets in particular offer portable and combination designs. Some fold up to be placed around the home, while others offer a changing table combination. With such sustainable materials, many other pieces of Cariboo furniture use this convertible or combination style, such as toddler beds and cots. Additionally, Cariboo has its line of bedding made from 100-percent organic wool and cotton, such as blankets and bassinet sheets.
