A leaf instead of a plate
On our last trip to LA I discovered those super cool trays in a beautiful home décor store on Abbot Kinney in Venice. I couldn’t resist. We have plenty of serving trays at home (really no excuse here), but this one really is a bit different. Inspired by nature.
Those banana leaves shaped ones by New York-based Japanese designer Nao Tamura are made of silicone. Her award winning plates (won the Salone Satellite award at the Milan Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010) called “seasons” can be used for anything and everything. Try even serving a veggie dish on the leafy tray to get your kids attention and make the veggies more interesting. The silicone makes the leaves super durable and like a real leaf, it is very flexible. You can even throw the trays in the dishwasher for cleaning. I read they are also oven-safe up to 425°F but have not tried it myself. If you are short of kitchen storage, those trays are great too as they can be rolled-up, but also wrapped and folded according to the dish being served.
